Almost half a million dollars in weed confiscated in Lehigh Acres

Lehigh Acres, Fla. -

People are in shock tonight after learning nearly a half a million dollars in marijuana was taken out of their community in Southwest Florida. The Lee County Narcotics Unit took down four grow houses and hauled seven people to jail. Neighbors who live near the house that was busted for having the most had no idea about the people who lived next door.

Apparently it can be in any neighborhood. The house at 200 W. 6th Street is a middle class house. Typically, in situations like this, neighbors see lots of people coming and going but not this time. Not at a house that had grown almost a quarter of a million dollars worth of marijuana. "I saw a bunch of cars there, maybe a baby shower or a brunch or a luncheon," said Colleen, who didn't want her last name used. When she figured out after I told her it was cops that were there she said, "I can't believe it. Quite the brunch, huh?"

But it was no brunch, It was the Lee County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division shutting down one of four grow houses, including at 3318 49th Street West, 910 Glenn Avenue, and 524 Parkside Street. All total the sheriff's confiscated 177 marijuana plants which produced 332 pounds of weed, with an estimated street value of $442,000. Half of that was confiscated in this house alone. Colleen lives just up the street and says the place was quiet. "Did you ever see many people coming and going, looking like there were coming in for a few minutes at a time? Never, never," she responded. "I sit outside a lot and I walk the dog a lot and I never see anything." When asked if people had been coming and going would she have known it she said, "Oh, I would've noticed something yea, yea, certainly." All of it caught Colleen by surprise, "I just assumed it was some nice people. Very shocked! I'm shocked! I can't believe it. You never know, I guess, what's going on around you"

The seven people arrested have been charged with Trafficking in Marijuana and Marijuana Cultivation. There's no word on exactly how much money in equipment they had.
