New way to detect "sneaky" breast cancer

CREATED Jul 3, 2014

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Southwest Floridians now have a more advanced option when it comes to screening for breast cancer - 3D mammography.

"Three D mammography is exciting because it's now allowing imagers to look through the breast," says Dr. Mary Kay Peterson of Radiology Regional.

The technology allows doctors to detect cancers that might now show up as clearly on 2D mammograms.

"With 3D mammo, the hope is that we're going to pick up on those cancer sooner meaning better survival for the patient," says Dr. Peterson.
