Fatal Fourth of July crash in Bonita Springs
Bonita Springs, Fla.- A man was killed after crashing into a telephone pole around 9 o'clock Thursday evening.
The Florida Highway Patrol identified the victim as 25-year-old Daniel Dean Vinson of Bonita Springs.
Witnesses tell FOX 4 News Vinson was was going about 90 miles an hour heading westbound on Bonita Springs Road.
They say he passed them after crossing Old U.S. 41 and then all of a sudden lost control of his Nissan Altima and went sideways into the concrete pole. It snapped in half and was left dangling between just two wires alongside the highway. Vinson's Nisan then hit a dumpster.
The witnesses told FOX4 they tried to help him out of the car but were unable to do so. Several men came from a sports bar across the street and pulled the man from the wreckage and tried to give him cardiopulmonary resitation but say he died soon thereafter. The road was blocked for several hours while the scene was cleared and Florida Power and Light worked on the pole.
