FORT MYERS, Fla.---For years Lee County taxpayers have picked up the tab so county officials could own a private plane.
After a FOX 4 Investigation it appears commissioners could be grounding the plane for good. Just before Larry Kiker was elected as County Commissioner he was outraged to learn taxpayers are footing the bill to fly officials all around the state.
Our investigation found the total cost of owning this airplane is One thousand dollars per flight hour. Airline fees pay for most of that but you pay for some of it too. That had many viewers upset.
Now county officials may finally get rid of the plane once and for all.
Newly elected commissioners Larry Kiker and Cecil Pendergrass say they will likely support Frank Mann's decision to sell the plane.
Frank Mann tells FOX 4 "You shouldn't be owning your own plane and paying the insurance on it and the pilots on it and the overtime on it and all the other expenses that are related to it, it's very expensive to own an airplane".
Tonight on FOX 4 News at 10 hear what commissioners have to say about this pricey plane and you may be shocked when we uncover exactly how this plane is being used.
