Florida Everblades raise $10K for veterans

CAPE CORAL - A Florida Everblades auction helped raise around $10,000 for southwest Florida veterans.

"All of that's going directly back to the veterans in the area and throughout the country," said Dan Ashby with the National Coalition for Patriots. "That's what this weekend was all about was raising money for the veterans."

The National Coalition for Patriots partnered with the Everblades Friday and Saturday. Members of the military were honored at both games with ceremonies and box suites.

The team wore special red, white and blue patriotic hockey jerseys this weekend. The game-worn jerseys were then autographed and auctioned off Saturday. Proceeds from the auction goes to  the National Coalition for Patriots, a local group that helps southwest Florida veterans.

"We are committed to supporting our military and veterans for their service to our country," said Everblades Vice President of Sales and Marketing Chris Palin. "The National Coalition for Patriots is a great organization, and we are thrilled that 100 percent of the proceeds from our jersey auction will go directly to our veterans."
