FORT MYERS - Waiting until the deadline, Gov. Rick Scott reappointed hundreds of people Monday - appointments the state senate failed to approve.

The mishandling of the appointments left three Edison State College trustees in limbo, and led another to step down, at a critical time for the college.

The governor reappointed Brian Chapman Jr., Eddie Webb, and Marjorie Starnes-Bilotti, who chaired a committee that helped select a consultant group tasked with finding the college's next president.

Outspoken trustee Pamella Seay requested to not be reappointed expressing frustration over the senate's failure to act.

Board chair Ann Berlam, who heads the presidential search committee, hopes the governor will replace Seay quickly. But she doesn't feel being down a member will slow things down.

"I would hope that we would have the ninth member soon," said Berlam. "But I don't think having eight members will impede us in anything that we have to do."

The governor had 45 days from the close of session to reappoint 400 people.

A spokesperson for the governor says he waited until the 45th day due to a "significant number" of reappointments that had to be reviewed.

The governor's office would not comment on Seay's decision to step down.
