NAPLES- A Collier County golf course is being recognized as one of the most eco-friendly courses in the United States.

Links Golf Magazine calls the course at Collier's Reserve Country Club the 4th most environmentally friendly course in the U.S.

This past year, the course renovated its irrigation system. It installed nearly 2,000 sprinkler heads that are precisely laid and deliver as little as 1/10 of an inch of water instead of relying on a time based method.

The golf course is also watering its course with 100% effluent water which is one of our most natural and precious resources(surface water used for drinking).

"With this new system, we're actually putting water where it needs to go. We're seeing less drying out. We're seeing more consistent playing conditions. The membership at Collier's Reserve has been ecstatic with this years playing conditions," said Nicholas von Hofen, Golf Course Superintendent.

In the first 4 months of installing the new system, it has saved the golf club over 11 million gallons of surface water.

The golf course is private and located off of Immokalee Road in Naples.
