Homicide Investigation underway in Fort Myers
FORT MYERS - Just half a block from a Fort Myers church, a Lee County deputy car still guards a crime scene where 51-year-old Richard Reese was killed.
Detectives won't say how he died or who might be a suspect.
"Yesterday, the killing, I was devastated about it," said Delois Brown, of Fort Myers.
From her home across the street, Brown said she watched investigators carry Reese out in a body bag.
"When they brought him out yesterday, my heart went out," added Brown.
Officers responded to 3225 Broadway just before 6:30 a.m. on Sunday. According to an incident report, a deputy patrolling the area, responded to the house where the victim was found dead. It's not clear what led him to the scene.
"It's been a troubled place," said Ted Stringer, of Fort Myers.
Stringer is a neighborhood watchman. He also volunteers handing out food at nearby Broadway Community Church.
"It's so sad," said Stringer. "You know, it just breaks my heard to see people hurting each other like that."
Genivia Adam lives behind the murder scene. She wants officers to get rid of the crime she says is gripping her neighborhood.
"I live there with my son and my grandson, they go to school," said Adam. "Sometimes I have to wake up early in the morning to make sure they're okay."
An autopsy will be conducted to determine the cause of death.
