FORT MYERS, Fla. - An anonymous donor has given the Edison State College School of Nursing a major financial gift.

The college announced Monday that it has received $728,000 from a Fort Myers couple. The husband says his late wife always wanted to be a nurse, but never had the chance.

Edison State College administrators say the gift will give others the opportunity to study nursing, and increase the number of qualified nurses in Southwest Florida.

"We're grateful that this gift allows us to sustain our superior record of training and educating nurses for the future," said Mary Myers, Interim Dean of Professional and Technical Studies. "It is comforting to know that when you need care Edison State College nurses are well prepared to respond. The generous support of this couple enhances our mission to deliver quality care."

"This large gift shows that there is tremendous trust in Edison State College and our Nursing Program," said J. Dudley Goodlette, Interim District President. "This gift will make a significant impact on nursing care in our community and in our ability to continue providing excellent educational opportunities."
