NAPLES- Local farmers using precaution this year and over the next few days when it comes to produce.

Frank Oakes owns Food and Thought in Naples on Tamiami Trail. He has a farm off Sanctuary Road. Last year, farmers say nearly 6 freezes in the month of December, alone. This year, Oakes is watching what he plants. He is growing more vegetables like broccoli and lettuce that can handle the colder weather.

"The squash, the cucumbers and the beans all freeze very easily and I lost all of those last year. This year I said I'm not planting those I'm going to leave it to the bigger guys. I plant stuff that doesn't mind the cold," said Oakes.

Oakes says he only planted one row of cold weather sensitive crops like tomatoes and cucumbers this year.
