New details on Publix car accident

PORT CHARLOTTE- We have an update on an accident that happened Sunday afternoon in a Publix parking lot on Cochran Boulevard and U.S. 41.
The driver, Dorothy Purcell, 86, of Port Charlotte, has been charged with Careless Driving after she drove her Toyota Corolla into the Publix grocery store. Purcell hit the gas pedal instead of the brakes and lost control of the car. Both Purcell and her passenger were taken to the hospital but suffered non-serious injuries.
Purcell did hit two pedestrians who were walking in the parking lot and front door of the Publix. Evan Duda, 22, of Port Charlotte, as he was walking in the parking lot. He was taken to Peace River Regional Medical Center with non-serious injuries. As Purcell continued driving, she hit 50-year-old Robert Nichols, of Port Charlotte. He was not injured.
