EAST LANSING, Mich. – Now in its third year, Michigan State University’s tradition of “Glowing Green” will continue during the week of October 7–12 for Homecoming 2013. The Michigan State University Alumni Association is encouraging Spartan fans across the globe to replace their front porch, office, residence hall or any other light that can glow with a green bulb to celebrate MSU’s Homecoming Week.

Spartan fans are also encouraged to submit a photo of how they are choosing to Glow Green for Homecoming in the Glow Green Photo Contest. Glow Green photo submissions are being accepted now through Monday, October 14 on the MSU Alumni Association Facebook page, or by using the hashtag #GlowGreen13 on Twitter or Instagram, and participants have the chance to win one of three great prizes. All photos must be in good taste and will be reviewed prior to being posted in a Facebook photo album on the MSU Alumni Association’s Facebook page. Contest winners will be selected by the MSU Homecoming Committee the week following Homecoming and the winners will be announced on the MSU Alumni Association social media channels on or before Friday, October 25.

The MSU Homecoming committee selected “Creating Spartan Super Heroes” as this year’s Homecoming theme, in honor of Homecoming Grand Marshal Geoff Johns. A 1995 Communication Arts and Sciences graduate, Johns is the chief creative officer of DC Entertainment and a superstar in the comic book industry. He wrote Justice League #1, working with legendary artist Jim Lee. He writes for characters such as Green Lantern, The Flash and Superman. He also has written episodes of TV's Smallville.

This year’s Homecoming week precedes MSU’s football game against the Indiana Hoosiers. The week will consist of different activities hosted by University organizations, including the annual Homecoming Parade on Friday, October 11 at 6 p.m.

The Homecoming Committee consists of representatives from the MSU Alumni Association, East Lansing business owners, campus organizations and student leaders.
