EAST LANSING, Mich. – Due to fall 2012 student move-in at Michigan State University, faculty and staff will not be permitted to park in areas surrounding residence halls on Saturday,
August 25; Sunday, August 26 and Monday, August 27. Only vehicles with a special 20-minute unloading parking permit, validated by residence hall staff, will be allowed in these areas.

MSU faculty and staff who regularly park in areas adjacent to residence halls will be directed to temporary parking areas during these three days, including parking ramps and lots within a
five-minute walk of their workplaces. The MSU Police support the opening of the residence
halls as a campus event, and faculty/staff parking permits are not valid in areas of special
event parking.

The availability of a parking spot normally occupied by a staff or faculty vehicle allows 27 different families to park during their unloading process, making move-in for incoming students much easier.

“Our goal is to create an outstanding Spartan experience and by moving faculty and staff vehicles, we are starting this process at day one,” said Kathy Collins, director of Residence Education and Housing Services. “When faculty and staff help out with this simple gesture, creating enhanced parking opportunities for our new Spartans and their family members, it provides for a more efficient move-in process and shows a university working together to further student success during every step of the process.”

Due to construction on campus and in the surrounding community, it is recommended that campus employees and visitors check for route detours and road closure information by
