By FOX 47 News . CREATED May 12, 2014

Bring your lawn chairs and blankets to downtown Mason on Thursday evening, May 22, and enjoy the sounds of the Mason Middle School and Mason High School Jazz Bands on the Ingham County Courthouse lawn. The two bands, under the direction of Beth Bousfield, will play beginning at 6 p.m. in a free concert, hosted by the Mason Area Chamber of Commerce and sponsored by Ware’s Pharmacy.

That evening, the MACC will be kicking off their tenth season of “Thursday Night Live! Courthouse Concerts” with a tenth anniversary ribbon cutting. Mason’s summer series of live musical entertainment is presented by Independent Bank on eight select Thursday evenings. The free outdoor concerts take place at 6 p.m. on the Ingham County Courthouse lawn in downtown Mason on May 22, June 5 and 19, July 3 and 17, August 7 and 21, and September 18, weather permitting. Again this year, there will be a rain date of September 4.

The Mason Optimist Club will be selling hot dogs, chips and pop nearby, so families can enjoy a picnic dinner during the concerts. Many concert-goers stop by restaurants and stores in Mason before and afterwards. “The Chamber hosting Thursday Night Live! Courthouse Concerts again is a way to bring more fun and excitement to downtown Mason,” said Sue Fulk of Independent Bank, chair of the committee organizing the concerts. She is especially happy this year since nearly all of the performers are returning for encore performances.

Two weeks after the first concert, the Mason Orchestral Society will be performing on Thursday, June 5, sponsored by CP Federal Credit Union. The June 19 concert will feature From Big Sur, a local band, sponsored by Mason State Bank. New to the concert series, Life Support Unplugged will play on July 3, sponsored by Dart Container Corporation. They will be followed by The Sea Cruisers sponsored by Darrell’s Market and Hardware on July 17. On Thursday, August 7, sponsored by Mason’s Downtown Development Authority, the Backwoods Band with Mason’s mayor, Leon Clark will have the stage – back for their tenth straight year.

For the August 21 concert on the Courthouse lawn, sponsored by the Dart Container Corporation, the series will feature the Twilight Memories Big Band. The entertainment series concludes with the Mason High School Band on Thursday, September 18, led by Beth Bousfield, MHS Band Director. The Mason High School Cheer Squad will join them in the program sponsored by CP Federal Credit Union. All concerts are weather permitting.
