Farmers Market at the Capitol to Take Place on Thursday
The first Farmers Market at the Capitol of the season will take place Thursday, July 31, 2014 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on the east lawn of the Capitol, featuring nearly 60 vendors from across the state selling Michigan-grown and -produced products ranging from fresh fruit, vegetables and flowers to meat and cheese to baked goods and prepared foods and more.
Cooking demonstrations focused on preparing fresh ingredients and farmers market food safety will take place each hour during the market, provided by Michigan State University Extension.
The market will accept SNAP Bridge Cards, WIC Project FRESH, Market FRESH and Double Up Food Bucks, ensuring that all Michigan residents have access to the fresh, local fruits, vegetables, meats and baked goods that the markets have to offer.
This market is hosted by the Michigan Farmers Market Association (MIFMA), in partnership with Michigan Food & Farming Systems (MIFFS) and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development (MDARD). Sponsors include CATA Clean Commute Options, Great Lakes Agricultural Fair, Lansing State Journal, Mousetrap Mobile, Lambert, Edwards & Associates, GreenStone Farm Credit Services, Advanced Insurance Markets Ltd., Michigan State University (MSU) Center for Regional Food Systems and MSU Sustainability.
