LANSING - Lansing Police arrest a man suspected in over 30 car break-ins. For months cars parked in neighborhoods along the Lansing River Trail had been having their car windows smashed and small items stolen from inside. Lansing police set up surveillance teams along the River Trail, and Tuesday night they say they caught a man in the act.

At about 7:30PM a surveillance team was staked-out in the 1500 block of Aurelius Road, when they saw a man smash a car window and commence searching inside. The officers approached the man, and he ran away into the swamp area beside the River Trail near Potter Park.

Tracking dogs were brought in. Eventually the Lansing Fire Department pitched in, using an inflatable boat to locate the suspect on a marshy knoll near the conjunction of the Red Cedar River and Sycamore Creek.

The man was arrested, then taken to the hospital for symptoms of hypothermia. He has since been released into police custody. Police say the suspect is a 26-year-old Lansing area man.
