Local Post Offices Not Extending Hours for Tax Day

By FOX 47 News. CREATED Apr 16, 2012 - UPDATED: Apr 17, 2012

Post Offices in the Greater Michigan area (zip codes ranges 488 – 491, and 493 – 498) are not extending retail hours on tax day (April 17th). Customers are encouraged to mail early in the day.

We put calls in to mid-Michigan's busiest facilities to see what time they're closing on Tuesday. The Elm Avenue post office in Jackson will be closing at 6pm. The post office on Abbot Road in East Lansing will close at 7pm, while the Collins Road post office in Lansing will close at 7:30pm Tuesday.

Customers can call 1-800-ASK-USPS (1-800-275-8777) to get information on hours of operation for other post offices in the mid-Michigan area.

The Postal Service advises customers to double check addressing and postage on mailed returns. After the first ounce — which usually covers about four, letter-sized sheets — mailers need to add 20 cents for each additional ounce.
