Food Network Alumna Raises Money for Local Family

Food Network's 'Chopped' contestant, Krissy Kerwin, hosted a fundraiser for Carter Buffum on Friday, October 4th and Saturday, October 5th at Prime Cuts in Jackson, Michigan. Chef Kerwin prepared and served her Mexican Posole for customers to purchase in support of Carter and his family. Carter suffers from Mitochondrial Disease. This life threatening disease affects his cognitive abilities and GI system. Carter cannot walk, talk or eat most foods like other children his age. He is completely dependent upon thirteen medications per day to sustain his young life. There is no cure or treatment for his disease. Children like Carter, who are diagnosed with Mitochondrial disease don’t live long enough to enjoy their teen years. Proceeds from the fundraiser were given to Carter's family to cover his medical expenses and transportation to Mott Children's Hospital in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
