Fire, Hazmat Situation in Downtown Leslie
A fire and hazmat situation at a Leslie metal-plating plant Tuesday night is contained. Fire crews were covering the building with as much water as they could, trying it put out the fire as quickly and safely as possible. No one has been hurt.
Residents of Leslie Estates at 714 Mill St. were advised to evacuate and go to Woodworth Elementary for shelter. Anyone living east of the railroad tracks should stay inside, closing windows and turning off air conditioning until further notice. The damage only appears to be to the ISC Plating Company. Police tell us the building will be destroyed. Several walls have collapsed. The biggest concern is the hazardous materials inside.
