Most people expect to find chips and soda in a vending machine, but a new one in Colorado is offering something entirely different.
It is the first marijuana vending machine in the country, and it debuted over the weekend in Vail.
The machine is called ZaZZZ and its maker, American Green, calls it "an automated, age-verifying, climate-controlled marijuana dispensing machine."
The machine was unveiled at a private, invite-only event on April 12 in Eagle County, and was then installed inside of pot shop Herbal Elements.
According to Stephen Shearin, COO of American Green parent Tranzbyte, the machine will only dispense marijuana to those who have a medical marijuana license. The machine will use the same technology that checks age/ID fraud under the Control Meth Act.
The pot machine could also help dispensary owners cut down on employee theft.
It's not actually the first pot vending machine. There are others, produced by Endexx and Medbox, but those machines are kept behind the counters and not accessible to anyone but dispensary employees.
