Beloved actor and comedian Robin Williams has died at the age of 63 as a result of what may have been a suicide, according to multiple sources. Police responded to a 9-1-1 call at his California home just before noon Monday.

“While his publicist wouldn’t confirm that his death was a suicide,” Entertainment Weekly reports, “a rep did issue this statement: Robin Williams passed away this morning. He has been battling severe depression of late. This is a tragic and sudden loss. The family respectfully asks for their privacy as they grieve during this very difficult time.”
Williams rose to fame as the star of TV’s “Mork & Mindy” in 1978 and went on to have a successful film career, winning an Oscar for his supporting role as a therapist in “Good Will Hunting.” Most recently, he had returned to TV in CBS' “The Crazy Ones,” which was cancelled after one season.
“He will reprise his role as Theodore Roosevelt in the third installment of ‘Night at the Museum’ this December,” Entertainment Weekly reports. “He had recently signed on to reprise his beloved role as ‘Mrs. Doubtfire’ in a sequel to be directed by Chris Columbus, and was last seen opposite Annette Bening in the indie film ‘The Face of Love.’”
According to a press release issued by the Marin County Coronor’s office, Williams was found unconscious and not breathing in his home in Tiburon, California. He was pronouced dead at 12:02 p.m. He had last been seen alive at his residence where he lives with his wife around 10 p.m. Sunday night.
The Sheriff’s office suspects the death to be "suicide due to asphyxia." An investigation into the cause, manner and circumstances of his death is underway. A forensic exam is scheduled for Tuesday "with subsequent toxicology testing to be conducted."
Williams' last tweet came on July 21 when he wished his daughter, Zelda, a happy 25th birthday.
His fellow stars mourned him on Twitter.
