Comic-Con in San Diego is always full of surprises, but one of this year's most talked about is the first official Wonder Woman photo.

Wonder Woman will be one of the characters in Zack Snyder's upcoming film, "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

It's not known yet how big of a role Wonder Woman will play in the movie, but she certainly appears ready for battle.

The red, white and blue outfit that Lynda Carter wore in the "Wonder Woman" television series from 1975 to 1979 is gone. Instead, the new Wonder Woman is completely armored up, giving her the appearance of a lethal warrior.

The photograph also shows Wonder Woman, who is being played by actress Gal Gadot, wielding a scary-looking sword. Don't worry though. The Lasso of Truth is still there and so are Wonder Woman's indestructible, bullet-deflecting bracelets, which now cover her entire forearm.

According to CNN, reaction to Wonder Woman's new look has been mixed on Twitter. Many people have pointed out that she looks like the character from "Xena: Warrior Princess."  Actress Carter has not given her opinion, but she did ask her fans on Facebook to weigh in. Those fans overwhelmingly favor Carter's costume and look, which were based on the comic book version of the superhero.

Reaction to photos of Ben Affleck as Batman has been mostly positive. The first photo was released on May 13.

The latest movie is scheduled to open May 6, 2016. It will be the seventh Superman film and eighth modern Batman film. It is the first time though that Wonder Woman has made an appearance.

According to Forbes magazine, the inclusion of Wonder Woman has already granted the film "oodles of free press in publications otherwise unconcerned with a comic book adventure." The author of the Forbes article says that if Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman isn't used well or doesn't come off well, Zack Snyder will be "forever known as the guy who screwed up Wonder Woman."

The movie stars Affleck as Batman and Henry Cavill as Superman.
