Parents watching an incident unfold in the bear enclosure at the Budapest Zoo earlier this summer probably thought their children were about to learn a brutal lesson in survival of the fittest.
Instead, the children may have learned a little something about mercy after something very surprising happened. It’s all caught on a video that’s quickly going viral, with more than a million views to date.
A highly distressed crow was flailing about in a pond inside the bear habitat. Its loud cries caught the attention of one of the bears, who predictably reached in and pulled the bird from the water by its wing, with the bear using its teeth and front paws.
Instead of then pouncing on its prey, however, the bear turns its back on the bird and resumes eating the vegetables and fruit scattered around the enclosure.
The frightened bird remains on its back for a few moments and then hops to its feet, never taking its eyes off the bear.
As the Huffington Post points out, “Even the crow doesn't seem to believe it!”
